Working in Edinburgh
Previously known for brewing, distilling, banking, publishing and printing, the city of Edinburgh’s economy is now based primarily on financial services, scientific research, higher education and tourism. RBS, Sainsbury’s Bank, Virgin Money and Tesco Bank all have headquarters in Edinburgh, with Scottish Widows and Standard Life also operating from the city. The Scotsman newspaper recently relocated its headquarters from Barclay House on Holyrood Road to Orchard Brae House on Queensferry Road, but still remains in the heart of the city. Offices on Queensferry Road are in a prime location, with large supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, banks and a Holiday Inn hotel all within easy walking distance. As with any major city, you will have no trouble finding an after work drinking spot, eatery or hotel – with plenty of five star iconic accommodations in the area. The Balmoral Hotel, The Chester Residence and The Waldorf Astoria are all located within the city, with many hotels offering conference and dining facilities perfect for businesses.

Edinburgh Trams have been in operation since May 2014 and connect many parts of the city centre, proving a popular alternative to taxis and buses. For those who do prefer bus travel, the city operates a fantastic service both within the centre and surrounding areas. Edinburgh Waverley Train Station is the second busiest station in Scotland and the UK’s second largest, boasting a beautiful façade and regular cross country trains, with the majority of Scotland’s departures and arrivals to and from London. For those requiring international travel, or with a number of overseas clients, Edinburgh Airport is based just a couple of miles to the West of the city centre and offers worldwide and domestic flights.
