Work Starts on New Co-Op Head Office in Manchester
Following several months of clearance work, construction has started on the Co-operative Group’s new head office in Manchester.
The new £100m 15-storey Co-Op headquarters, which has been designed to BREEAM Excellent standards, will be built by BAM Construction.
Upon its planned completion in 2012, the property is expected to be one of the most sustainable new office buildings in Europe.
Designed by architects 3D Reid, the new property will feature many green aspects such as an eco-friendly energy system to provide all power needs from renewable sources, and an emphasis on greener commuting methods such as cycling and public transport.
As reported on our blog recently, Steve Byrne, director of BAM in the North West, said:
“This is a hugely impressive project not only in design, construction techniques and the expertise it demands of us, but also for how it will contribute to the community and economy around it. At BAM, that is something we value.”
Once complete, the development will provide 325,000 sq ft of office space for Co-Operative employees in central Manchester.
The Co-operative Group has also launched a new website where the public can track progress of the development through live webcam ΓÇô www.co-operative.coop/newheadoffice.
