Taunton Office Scheme Signals Beginning of Long-term Redevelopment

A long-term redevelopment plan for Taunton Town Centre took a significant step forward this week, with property developer St Modwen gaining planning committee approval for 27,000 sq. ft. of office space.

Part of a wider redevelopment planned for the Somerset town, the new office space would mark the beginning of what is expected to be a 12 year process ΓÇô transforming a total of 123-acres into a mix of offices, residential apartments and delivering a new hotel to the town centre.

With work expected to begin on the £270m office space development this summer, St Modwen believes that this first phase of the “Firepool” scheme could be completed and ready for businesses to occupy by Summer 2012.

ΓÇ£These approvals are the latest milestones in our ongoing delivery of FirepoolΓÇ¥ stated St ModwenΓÇÖs Development Manager Pete Davies.

ΓÇ£WeΓÇÖre delighted that works to develop our first office will start on site in the next few months.ΓÇ¥

With the office development now moving ahead, Mr Davies also explained that St Modwen had been committing resources to sounding out occupiers for the new town centre offices:

ΓÇ£Discussions are also ongoing with other potential occupiers who can see the advantages of locating to the development, which offers an attractive river-side setting within close proximity to the town centre and the main railway station.ΓÇ¥
