Southend Airport Development to Create Over 6000 Jobs
Plans to develop land around Southend Airport, including a 99,000 sqm business park, have been finalised by council members with the creation of over 6,200 jobs expected.
The largest centre planned for construction, named Saxon Business Park, will be the flagship development delivering new office space, with completion hoped by 2021.
Jonathan Gartson, councillor responsible for the planning at Southend Council, described the blueprint as “the next step forward for the airport area, following all the major expansions”.
“It is about agreeing a framework for Southend and Rochford and to ensure we are able to attract new businesses to the area.”
The development corresponds with plans for a £10m terminal that will cater for up to 2 million passengers a year, whilst also increasing the number of major airlines based at the airport from one to three.
In the latest edition of the Serviced Office Review Series for the East, officebroker.com witnessed a drop in the number of businesses searching for and taking office space during Q3 2011. However an increase in the space taken and cost per workstation, in addition to an increased average licence length perhaps suggests that more established businesses are willing to take and commit to space.
