Shared Office Space in Congleton Appeals to SMEs
The former cigar mill now offers flexible office space options for small businesses
Located in the centuries-old market town of Congleton on the outskirts of the Peak District, a former 1900s mill has been transformed into a modern business centre offering flexible workspace options for small and medium firms.
Providing serviced space and a range of business facilities, the property has become popular with SMEs searching for a flexible workspace option. In keeping with the serviced office market, clients can opt for short or long-term options and many amenities are available on an inclusive basis.
But in recent months the centre has experienced demand of a different sort.
Amid large-scale job cuts and with the UK economy still facing difficulties, it’s no surprise that many individuals are taking the opportunity to go it alone by starting their own business – perhaps to avoid redundancy, make the most of a pay-out, or to follow a long-term dream.
Following a reported growth in start-up businesses this year, the Congleton centre has noticed an increase in enquiries from new firms, professionals and freelancers, and has adapted one part of the building to accommodate new businesses on a shared space basis.
The mill dates back to the early 1900s
“We have had a lot of interest in the Congleton area for people looking for a one-person office and shared space facilities,” said Laura Kavanagh, Sales & Office Support Manager.
“Therefore we have created a shared office to appeal to the present market. Most enquiries are from start-up businesses, either wanting to move out of the home office to something more professional, or looking for a property where they have the ability to network easily.”
Located on the ground floor of the property, the shared office is close to all main facilities including the reception, meetings rooms and kitchen, and offers a pleasant working environment for clients that need a professional space to focus on their business.
“Our building is full of character,” added Laura. “The office we are using has exposed brick work, original pine beams and two large windows, so the office is light and spacious.”
Individuals can hire the space by the month, by week, and even by the hour, which is targeted to businesses that are on the road and need an office for a few hours to reply to emails or document their work.
Existing clients have praised the centre for its professional offering, including Karen Cotton from Beacon For Business, who said that the building is “meticulously maintained”, and commended the staff who she said are “always cheerful and helpful”.

Neil Ouzman of Mozo Media and Chairman of Bridestones Associates Ltd added to this by commenting that the level of service and quality of fit-out is “absolutely first class”. He said: “The decision to start up or re-locate a business is a big one and I have to say with total conviction that we are really happy with the level of service that we have and continue to receive.”
Despite having just launched the shared space option, the team at Congleton already have plans to expand their offering.
“If it is a success we are hoping to move it to the first floor where we can offer around 2,000 square feet of shared space!” added Laura.
