Record Month for Abingdon-based Business Centre

Record Month for Abingdon-based Business Centre

A business centre located near the town of Abingdon in Oxfordshire has experienced a record month, with fourteen company relocations – equating to a move nearly every two days.

As one of Europe’s largest business and science estates, the business centre is used to seeing new arrivals and growth within their existing clients’ companies. But between 10th June and 10th July this year, the estate – which is operated by Oxford Innovation – saw record movement, with eight new companies moving in and three organisations relocating within the site.

A further three expanded their existing space, again staying within the Milton Park site.

As a result of the recent movements, the centre is now 81% occupied with some 36 companies based within the centre, and another 15 virtual businesses.

Commenting on the impressive results, James Dipple, Managing Director of the park, said that he believes part of the centre’s success is that it acts as a “perfect incubator” for fledgling and start-up businesses, which helps those firms to succeed and therefore expand to larger offices on the estate.

“Our strategy is to encourage start-up and small businesses to operate in an environment which allows them to focus on their own corporate goals while we take care of their premises,” he said. “In turn, this strategy provides us with a steady stream of companies who need to expand into other office locations on our estate.”

Andy McLeod, CEO of Claresys Ltd – a client on the site and developer of lenses for surveillance systems – said that one of the main reasons they chose this site was due to the “range of flexible accommodation” on offer, which he says was the ideal starting point.

“We are now recruiting to double our existing headcount, increasing our investment in assembly and test facilities, and resourcing a major new contract,” he said, adding: “Our employees are very happy working at Milton Park and it is an attractive location for our new staff to work.”

The centre offers high quality office space for small and medium sized businesses, with an excellent support network and top-of-the-range amenities and fittings. Clients also benefit from a community of like-minded businesses to network with.
