Blog’s Tom Stiles to Open NME Lovebox Festival’s Tom Stiles to Open NME Lovebox Festival

Tom Stiles, Account Manager at, will be playing the main stage at NME Breakthrough’s Lovebox festival this Friday (16th July).

The band were selected to open the festival following a tough competition set up by NME Breakthrough, which saw Tom and the rest of the Matt Henshaw band battle it out against 1500 other entrants.

The route was particularly challenging, as they first had to impress NME judges to make the shortlist. This was no mean feat, as among the panel of judges were NME Editor Krissi Murison and Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay.

But the band prevailed, and having impressed the judges to make the shortlist, the final five bands were then released into the public domain and placed at the mercy of avid NME readers, who voted for their favourite.

Tom’s band successfully saw off the remaining four groups on the shortlist – May 68, Visions of Trees, Loose Talk Costs Lives, and The Heartbreaks – by equating the most online votes, and secured their place on the main stage at Victoria Park this weekend.

Tom is looking forward to opening the festival and sharing the same stage as some of the UK’s biggest acts. He said: “We will be kicking off the festival opening on the main stage on Friday afternoon followed by Ellie Goulding, The Maccabees, Noisettes, Chase and Status, and Dizzee Rascall.”

Prior to announcing the winner, NME Radar Editor Jaimie Hodgson, who was also a competition judge, praised the calibre of acts that entered the competition.

“We’ve so far seen a really diverse selection of really talented artists coming through the NME Breakthrough ranks, encouraged no doubt by the opportunity to be playing mainstage at one of the UK’s most acclaimed festivals,” he said.
