On Sunday 6th June,’s Nicola Horne took to the streets of Birmingham to complete the 13-mile BRMB Walkathon course, in aid of Britain’s walking wounded.

Nicola, who completed the huge circuit in an impressive 3hrs 47mins, was among 8,000 other people walking with a common aim ΓÇô to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity (QEHB Charity). The money raised will help ‘build a home for the brave’ in Birmingham, providing both a relaxing haven for rehabilitating soldiers, and support to help them rebuild their lives.

The funds will create a space for military patients and their families, near the site of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. To achieve this goal the charity is looking to raise an estimated £1 million which will enable designs to become a reality during 2012 and 2013.

Any additional funds will be allocated for ongoing support of the newly created facility.

Following her walk, Nicola – who says that she has “the blisters to prove it” – has so far raised ┬ú200 thanks to her efforts last Sunday. Her walk started at Brookvale Park and followed a 13-mile circuit, before finishing at Kings Heath.

Anyone wishing to donate to the cause can donate via the BRMB Walkathon website at, or by clicking here: Donate online.
