Business Centre of the Month Award… Prama House in Oxford scooped September’s title. The popular centre is a huge hit with clients and the team impressed’s Chris Meredith, Head of Sales and award judge, with their hard work, proactive approach and excellent customer service.

Provider news… Yet again September was buzzing with announcements of expansions and high occupancy, which is great news for the serviced office sector – particularly amidst the current economic climate.

i2 Office kicked off the month with news of another new business centre in the City of London, located in Aldersgate (you can read the opinions of i2’s General Manager Mel Efstratiou here), and Citibase also announced the launch of a new building in Chester, their 34th to date. Not to be outdone, United Business Centres (UBC) have opened a new location in Warrington’s popular Daresbury Business Park (pictured below), and Pioneer Offices got in on the act by adding a new bespoke and more flexible dimension to their recently opened centre in Liverpool.

Never short of good news, Fasset got in touch to tell us that Hersham Place business centre has reached record occupancy levels, while Orega announced that their Birmingham location is undergoing an expansion which will bring an additional 7,500 sq ft of serviced space to Colmore Plaza. Orega have also just launched a new ‘part time’ concept at their Staines centre, allowing clients to use the space on a more flexible basis.

Charity news… As usual, serviced office representatives were busy fundraising during September in ever more inventive and generous ways.

Bizspace employees took part in a range of sporting challenges to raise more than ┬ú3000 for their chosen charity, The Stroke Association, and Fasset’s Langstone Technology Park hosted a donor recruitment event to help find a life-saving blood donor for 8-year old Oliver Baylis (you can read more about brave Oliver and find out how you can help by visiting his Facebook page).

Further north, UBC’s Sarah Stewart (pictured below), Centre Manager at their Northumberland based business centre, successfully completed a marathon 56-hour team radio broadcast – beating the former record held by BBC Radio One’s Chris Moyles and Dave Vitty – in aid of Sara’s Hope Foundation.’s Richard Horwell and Dan Mcleod also did their share of fundraising – for local not-for-profit club RAW Kickboxing – by taking part in a football match against the Aston Villa Allstars. The day was a great success (even though poor Richard limped off after 10 minutes) and the Villa legends have promised to come back next year for a re-match.

In more news, we announced a new milestone for our customer feedback platform, which reached the 1000 mark during September. Just a couple of weeks since reporting this figure, we are already nearing 1,100 reviews – so I’m sure it wonΓÇÖt be long before we are announcing yet another new milestone! To mark the occasion, a delicious Thorntons hamper was sent to Anita Harris of Advocating Excellence, who wrote the 1000th review following her relocation to Lichfield Business Village with the help of our very own Kaz Yaqub.

Features and analysis… By far one of our most popular blogs in September was our feature on ‘Who’s the biggest Dragon in the Den?‘, which took a detailed look at the fortunes and wealth of each of the current stars of BBC’s Dragon’s Den.

We put eBay under the microscope, examining how to become an ‘eBay Millionaire‘, and also reported on the benefits of asking a student to accomplish your business design needs with the help of

Finally, we reported on research suggesting that 64% of men prefer to work in an all-male setting, in order to avoid the “bitchy environment” which they believe is caused by “some female colleagues”. Read more on this opinion and don’t forget to add your two-penneth to the debate!
