The arrival of lots of little ghosts, ghouls and ghastly looking beings on my doorstep last night can only mean one thing: October out, November in! (along with a sadly depleted stash of sweets).

So with the arrival of a new month comes our faithful round-up of all the goings-on throughout the serviced office industry in October…

In other team news, Rebecca-Jane Strawford (Becci) has risen to new heights by becoming the only person to reach ICON twice in a row, and Stephen Turner is working on a plan to complete the Sucata Split challenge next year, a charity banger race that starts in Bruges and ends (for the lucky ones) in Croatia’s beautiful capital, Split.

He’s still on the lookout for a worthy banger that will carry him and the rest of the ‘Top Gun’ team along the Dalmatian Coast, so if you have a scrap car that youΓÇÖre willing to part with for no more than ┬ú250, get in touch!

Provider news… Serviced office providers are a busy bunch, and as ever we have been inundated with wonderful stories covering everything from expansions and team news, to hair-raising fundraising challenges.

i2 Office announced that their Glasgow centre has now reached 85% occupancy, the award-winning Clarendon Business Centres launched a new location in Poole, Liverpool Science Park successfully secured funding for the third and final phase of development, and Fasset’s Langstone centre hosted a fun food forum with ARAMARK and a host of special guests, including TV Chef Brian Turner.

On the charity fundraising front, Business Environment staff donned jeans for the day as part of Jeans for Genes Day, raising money for children with genetic disorders; a client of Basepoint in Gosport assisted in the latest World Record attempt and fundraising venture of James Cracknell OBE; Orega’s Wandsworth team donned morphsuits to raise ┬ú300 for Macmillan Cancer Support; and four Bizspace team members abseiled down the tower at Dudley Castle to raise money for The Stroke Association.

Features & analysis… According to research, UK businesses could lose over ┬ú3bn in the coming months as a result of winter illnesses such as cold and flu – with dirty desks and keyboards among the biggest culprits. So next time you decide on a quick sandwich at your desk, spare a thought for all those crisp and bread crumbs lodged in your keyboard. Yuck!

October’s hot topic was of course the infamous Blackberry blackout, which saw millions of users without access to email or messaging for a number of days. The headlines were rife with tales of frustration and clever puns, but without doubt the best one-liner in the news has to be: “Will Blackberry Crumble Lead to Apple Turnover?”

Keep your eyes peeled and your upper lip fluffy in November, as ‘Mo Bros’ all around the world come together in support of Movember, an annual fundraising event that encourages men to grow a moustache throughout November to raise vital funds in the fight against prostate and testicular cancer. are fielding a team of Mo Bros (and even a Mo Sista, complete with a bagful of fake moustaches) and we’ll be keeping a diary of their tache-growing attempts throughout the month.

Continuing our regular features on successful and inspirational business owners, we checked in on the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskivitz and Scott Duncan as part of our ‘Billion in the Bank Before 30‘ feature, as well as our weekly focus on the world’s biggest business tycoons, including Lord Alan Sugar and Donald Trump.
