Award-winners… In January, we kicked off the New Year with the announcement that our Business Centre of the Year 2010 was awarded to 3 Lloyds Avenue (pictured top), operated by The Office Group. Formerly managed by Esselco, the centre wowed our MD Jim Venables with its ultra-modern fit-out, top-notch service and solid relationship with the officebroker.com team.
We have also just announced our first Business Centre of the Month winner in 2011, which goes to The Beehive. Operated by Orega Ltd (pictured below), who also won the monthly award for their Chertsey centre last April, The Beehive is a former airport terminal dating back to the 1930s that has been re-fitted and transformed into superb serviced offices.
Continuing the award-winning theme, we caught up Sonia Padgett from Leigh House near Leeds, winner of our Business Centre of the Month award last October, to find out what’s been happening lately. Sonia tells us that the centre has continued to move forwards, and has since undergone refurbishing work to the offices and also launched a series of networking events for clients and the local community.
In other office provider news, Avanta kick-started 2011 with news of their upcoming Sparks charity fundraiser, which will be hosted by Olympic rowing star Sir Matthew Pinsent on Wednesday 2nd March 2011.
Fasset have certainly been busy over the last few months, and have been faithfully sending us their news on a weekly basis. The team are adding the finishing touches to a new day nursery at Langstone Technology Park (pictured below), which recently scored an overall 91% in a customer satisfaction survey, and Langstone will also be hosting a series of business seminars later this year.
At Fasset’s Business & Technology Park near Towcester, occupancy levels continue to reach new heights as the team recently welcomed their 16th client, bringing the total number of on-site clients’ employees to 220.
Orega Ltd announced that their Manchester centre at Piccadilly Place has attracted a number of new clients via the Hello Northwest scheme, which allows overseas companies to use free office space for a year, in order to attract inward investment and job opportunities to the area.
Finally, Bizspace launched a free business mentoring service at 26 of their northwest centres. Working in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Community & Business Partners, the new initiative will give Bizspace clients the chance to work with a dedicated mentor who will help develop their leadership and management skills.
In conventional office space news, the acclaimed Heron Tower project (pictured left) has gained planning permission for phase two of the development, which will introduce a luxury hotel – the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences London – which is the first hotel to be purpose-built in the City for 30 years.
Speculation surrounds the fate of the Can of Ham – a semi-elliptical office property that has been earmarked for the City of London (pictured bottom). A US-based teacher’s pension fund has invested in the project and it looks like the development will go ahead – giving the Gherkin a new neighbour – although it is thought that the original Foggio design of the building may be revisited.
Finally, officebroker.com’s Jo Davey attended an evening in Solihull hosted by Jos├⌐ Henr├¡quez – one of the 33 rescued Chilean miners – to hear about his horrific ordeal when he and his colleagues survived underground for 69 days, and to listen to his inspirational story.
