Office Inspiration: Channelling Concrete Chic Up North
Blending muted tones with unexpected materials, The Office GroupΓÇÖs latest launch in Leeds is a master class in industrial chic. We canΓÇÖt be the only ones feeling a teensy bit jealous.
If youΓÇÖve been following the series, youΓÇÖll no doubt have noticed that the last few Office Inspiration instalments have been eye-poppingly colourful. So we thought it was time for a contrast.
When we saw Fuse ArchitectsΓÇÖ transformation of this 1930s building into a twenty-first century office space, we knew weΓÇÖd found it. Drawing on the buildingΓÇÖs railway heritage, the team used industrial materials including concrete and exposed brickwork for a deconstructed feel which is free from fussy details.
WeΓÇÖve been following the trend for unusual receptions desks for a while now ΓÇô and here we find yet another twist. Keeping with the industrial theme, the reception desk is made from solid concrete; but rather than feeling cold and utilitarian, the clean lines lend a certain chic sophistication.
One of our favourite features of these offices is the fretwork screen within this business lounge. Thanks to the geometric design, it is both a nod to the buildingΓÇÖs Art Deco heritage and another industrial reference. In the foreground, mid-century inspired armchairs and tables create an environment which is equal parts retro and utterly on-trend.
The industrial features continue throughout the communal areas, including the kitchen pictured above. You can grab a seat in one of the comfy armchairs or pull up a chair at the concrete table…
But remember to look up too ΓÇô otherwise you might miss this ceiling, which has turned supply pipes into an intricate work of art.
And hereΓÇÖs where we let you in on a little secret about this space. These are actually serviced offices which means theyΓÇÖre available to rent ΓÇô fully furnished ΓÇô on the kind of easy-in easy-out terms which make them accessible to SMEs, startups and even freelancers. (Yes, you could work in a space like this.)
Who knew industrial materials could create such an enviably chic space?
