ITV and WHSmith in Move to MediaCityUK, Salford Quays
ITV are back in talks with Peel Media for a possible move to the acclaimed MediaCityUK office and studio location in Salford Quays, in a deal which has been three years in the making.
Talks ended last March after a deal failed to be made between ITV and Peel Media, the company behind the Salford Quays development. However they were revived in January this year following the arrival of new ITV chairman Archie Norman.
According to TheBusinessDesk, it is thought that the deal is in the late stages of negotiations, and ITV are expected to take around 100,000sq ft of space. If the move goes ahead, the set of Coronation Street – which will mark its 50th birthday this December – will also move to Salford Quays.
Retailer WHSmith have recently agreed to take 1,000 sq ft of space at MediaCityUK, and will set up an outlet to sell a range of newspapers and magazines, stationery, books, confectionery and drinks.
According to a MediaCityUK press release, Bryan Gray, Chairman of the Peel Media Group, said:
“Ensuring we have the appropriate blend of retail outlets at MediaCityUK is paramount to creating the right ambience and building a city environment.
“WHSmith are a well-known high street brand and we are pleased that they will be serving the needs of visitors, residents and employees at MediaCityUK.”
