Fred Dinenage Presents Award to Blooming Marvellous Business Centre

A business centre in Gosport has been recognised for the quality of its extensive outdoor spaces and landscaped areas in the annual ‘Gosport In Bloom’ Awards.

“We had some fantastic entries, fewer than last year, but nevertheless a lot of new people taking part which was very nice to see,” said Councillor Graham Burgess, Chairman of the Community Board at Gosport Borough Council, who also said that the high standards of this year’s entries gave judges a tough time.

For four years in a row the Basepoint-operated centre has scooped medals in the ‘Best Business Premises’ category, and this year the team won silver, which was presented to Cyril Coote Mackay by TV personality Fred Dinenage.

Andy Weston, Centre Manager at Gosport Business Centre, said that Fred has become known locally as ‘Mr In Bloom’ as he has presents the prizes every year, and recognises Basepoint’s Cyril every time.

“It shows the commitment of local businesses in helping make our town a more pleasant place to live and work,” said Andy, who himself is dedicated to helping local firms grow and is a regular face at business events in the area.

At the B2B Expo in Portsmouth earlier this month, an exhibition for local companies and start-ups in the region, Andy met former BBC Apprentice candidate and guest speaker Jim Eastwood, who became known as ‘Jedi Jim’ during his time on the TV show for his persuasive abilities.

Jim reached the final of the competition, and is now a successful public speaker and sales professional.

“Meeting Jim was a real pleasure,” said Andy. “He is a very personable guy, easy to get on with and he is very down to earth.”
