EuropeΓÇÖs Largest Sustainable Business Site
Construction at a new innovative business centre is progressing swiftly, with the development expected to become Europe’s largest sustainable business site.
Located in Eccleshill, near Bradford, the site will see the construction of two buildings with plans to further develop the remaining acre.
According to environmental website, edie.net, the £4m development is utilising local building products manufacturer, Modecell, who will provide prefabricated wall panels for the building. The eco-friendly panels will be made from over 2500 straw bales, which are extremely quick to assemble with the added benefit of coming from a sustainable source. The use of the bales will help to significantly reduce the costs associated with traditional building methods, whilst also helping the development to achieve a BREEAM rating.
Finlay White, Operations and Marketing Director at Modcell, commented that “the buildings have the same lifespan as traditional buildings and running costs are drastically reduced. The market potential is huge.”
Additional eco features will include solar panels, a ground-source heat pump for heating and hot water and a rainwater collection system to supply non drinking water.
With an expected completion date of December this year, the buildings will provide a range of serviced offices and managed workspaces.
In a region that officebroker.com has observed a drop in enquires and deals in the serviced office sector for the first 6 months of the year (compared with 2010), this is the second development in the Bradford area that we have blogged about in a week. Perhaps these projects will help to generate greater interest in the area, stimulating the local economy.
