Business Environment Makes Sunday Times Top 100

For a record sixth consecutive year, serviced office provider Business Environment has secured a place in the Sunday Times ‘Top 100 Small Companies to Work For’ list.

Business environment, a leading UK supplier of serviced office space, has been recognised as one of the top 100 small businesses to work for in 2013. The Sunday Times award is based on a range of criteria including employee perks, office facilities and workplace environment, so what could be a more fitting accolade for a supplier of workspace?

In addition, Business Environment has been bestowed with the coveted three-star rating ΓÇô the highest form of recognition as part of the award. And on top of that, the company has won the award six times in a row ΓÇô making them just one of a handful of organisations to do so.

“It means a huge amount to make the Sunday Times list – especially so since it’s our teams’ opinions that are used in the judging process,” said Managing Director of Business Environment, David Saul. “Our continued presence here is a testament to all my colleagues, and to how much they have done to create a great atmosphere to work in,” he added.

Business Environment, which operates around 1 million sq ft of flexible office space and meeting rooms across the UK, is no stranger to success. It has won the BCA’s (Business Centre Association’s) Business Centre of the Year Award five times since 2006, and was a finalist in 2012. The company has also been recognised in other award schemes including the National Customer Service Awards, Investors in People, Best Social Intranet, and even scooped Data Cabling Infrastructure Solution of the Year in 2011 for its prestigious Cheapside offices (pictured).

Back to the Sunday Times accolade, and BE reached an impressive 36th position out of the top 100 UK companies. It was recognised for various factors including its employee perks, which includes the use of fitness centres and providing a positive, stimulating environment for staff.

BE encourages staff to take three days off each year to volunteer for local charitable projects, and also has its own ‘Green Team’ which tackles environmental projects and ensures each business centre is working as efficiently as possible.

“There are ethical reasons for setting up a positive working environment ΓÇô but there are hard-headed business reasons too,” said David. He added: “If people feel valued, feel that their work is having a positive impact and feel like they have a good work/life balance it improves staff retention and motivation, and improves your firm’s bottom line.

“However it’s not enough for senior management to say this – most of the changes have to come from employees themselves, so it’s thanks to them that the company has won this award.”
