Avanta MD Raises £9,000 for Sparks

David Alberto, founder and Managing Director of serviced office provider Avanta, recently took part in the gruelling Lakeland 100 Ultra Marathon and raised an impressive ┬ú9,000 for children’s charity Sparks.

Nothing short of brutal, the Lakeland marathon is a 105-mile fell race across the mountainous backbone of the Lake District in Cumbria and is widely considered one of BritainΓÇÖs toughest endurance competitions.

The gritty challenge calls upon its entrants to display sheer stamina as well as other key skills such as navigational awareness, cast-iron legs and the ability to keep going through one pain barrier after another.

David is a keen runner and is no stranger to gruelling events; in preparation for the Lakeland marathon he has been training in the Brecon Beacons, running up hill and down dale and covering up to 60 miles to prepare himself both mentally and physically.

Over 240 runners lined up to start the race on 23rd July, which is expected to take around 23 hours to complete on average, meaning competitors don’t have time to stop or sleep en route.

By the 75th mile David was in an impressive 15th position; but sadly his promising performance was cut short all too soon when he fell whilst crossing a waterfall, injuring his leg in the process.

Undeterred, David has already signed up to next year’s Lakeland event and is determined not to let history repeat itself.

Speaking after the race, he said: “I am very disappointed at not finishing the course, and annoyed with myself for taking a spill at the same spot where I fell during a training race earlier in the year. However, I’ll be back again next year as I’m determined to complete the course and will continue to raise funds for Sparks.”
