The btc at Stevenage –’s Business Centre of the Month for June

Since April 2010, has been celebrating UK business centres that have shown outstanding service and contribution to the serviced office industry with a new scheme – the Business Centre of the Month award.

The accolade commends one UK-based business centre each month that demonstrates high levels of customer service, positive client feedback, a strong advertising profile on the website, and key features that raise the profile of both the centre and the industry as a whole.

June 2010 Winner: Business & Technology Centre (btc)

This month, the btc (Business & Technology Centre) scoops’s Business Centre of the Month award for June 2010.

Managed by Wenta, the btc – a Stevenage-based business centre providing flexible office space – has created a supportive environment for local enterprise and has adopted the slogan “inspiring innovation”, which has become synonymous with the btc name and brand.

“We are really pleased to have been chosen as JuneΓÇÖs Business Centre of the Month,” commented Ros Beattie, Centre Manager of the btc. “When we first heard about this reward scheme we were really keen to enter and showcase the fantastic facilities that the btc has to offer.

“The team have put a lot of time into making our entry stand out above the rest. We are a close team who work tirelessly to create a friendly community for all of our tenants and winning this award has delighted both staff and tenants alike.”

They have their clients’ best business interests at heart, and provide the very best in customer service

Aside from being registered with Customer First, a scheme that ensures that the highest level of customer service is met at all times, the btc also have a number of positive reviews that their existing clients have submitted via the website.

Jim Venables,’s founder, Managing Director, and award judge, commented:

“They certainly have their clients’ best business interests at heart, and strive to provide the very best in customer service.”

Putting the proof in the pudding, tenant Tony Shephard from Tiger Flooring commented that the btc provides “a highly professional and efficient approach”, while Neil Skehel from Awards International says that the centre is “extremely accommodating” and provides “outstanding customer service”.

Commenting on this, Jim added: “Good customer service forms the very basis of the serviced office industry, and that is why I have included it as a key criterion for winning this award. The btc has this in abundance, along with many other impressive traits that has led to them becoming Business Centre of the Month.”

Other key features that Jim refers to include a positive profile on the website, and good communications with the team – both of which are essential for introducing new businesses to the centre, and ensuring that all necessary information is delivered to prospective clients.

Ros added: “Since our re-launch in 2009 the centre has attracted a wide variety of new tenants and has been indispensible in creating these leads. This award has highlighted the first-class standard of the btc and we are proud to showcase our offices, workshops, virtual office services and our on-site business advice.

“We’re really looking forward to continuing to work with and build on our already strong relationship and hope to see them at the btc soon!”

Fostering business relationships

Jim was also impressed by the centre’s enthusiasm to bring the community together and to encourage and foster new business between clients. One example of this is their regular ‘Bacon Buttie’ mornings, where tenants are invited to enjoy breakfast and get to know their fellow tenants and the business centre staff.

The centre also hosted a local community event recently, which coincided with the re-launch of the btc last November and saw The Apprentice’s Philip Taylor attend proceedings. The event was organised by students from local schools and the North Herts College, and was held during Enterprise Week to highlight the organisational and enterprise skills of the students.

More recently, the btc has extended its existing facilities by a further 27,000 sq ft. The growing centre is part of the council’s vision to create quality business space and support in the heart of Stevenage’s business community. Its key aim is to support SMEs as well as promote innovation in the region – something that is helping local businesses to grow and prosper, and which has earned the centre recognition in the form of’s Business Centre of the Month award.

“This centre is very supportive and provides an excellent environment for entrepreneurs and growing businesses,” commented Jim Venables, who himself founded as a start-up enterprise back in 2001. “For this plus many other reasons I am delighted to award the btc with our June Business Centre of the Month award.”

Centre co-ordinator, Donna Spicer added: “IΓÇÖm so pleased to see the btc recognised for this award. The centre really does speak for itself and with the addition of our new video to our profile and website, people will be able to see this for themselves.”
