Work kicks off on Birmingham Jewellery Quarter’s new office space scheme
A massive project set for Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, which will see a former kitchenware factory converted into office space, homes, shops and more, has now sprung into action.
Demolition work has begun on the £160m scheme, which we reported on at the end of July.
According to a recent report by the Birmingham Post, the work has attracted praise from community leaders, who say that the project will boost a series of regeneration plans for the area that have previously had funding setbacks. The scheme is also expected to create around 2,500 jobs.
In an interview with the Birmingham Post, Marie Haddleton, president of the Jewellery Quarter Association, said:
“This is going to be massive for the Jewellery Quarter. We have ended up with a number of derelict buildings there, one or two of which are listed, like the Kettleworks, and what they are going to do with it is really something special.”
