Victorian train station shed gets new lease of life as Grade A office space
A derelict Victorian railway shed in Birkenhead is undergoing a high-class refurbishment project, to become Grade A office space spread across 20,000 sq ft.
Developer Merseyside Estates and managing agents Smith and Sons Commercial Agents in Birkenhead are due to start construction shortly, and will be seeing the project through to completion.
The building had already been converted by a previous owner, but poor construction resulted in failure to let any space. The building was left empty and remained in that state for almost ten years.
Snook Architects will be managing the design element of the new project, called Shorelines.
The scheme will incorporate office space, meeting rooms and conference space in a new steel-framed mezzanine structure. The offices will overlook a central communal area with café and meeting spaces, and the building will also incorporate a new entrance lobby, atrium and ancillary space for storage, along with additional space for recreational use and computer server rooms.
The building will feature sustainable elements, such as natural ventilation throughout, utilising key features such as night cooling and wind chimneys.
