In September, we brought six new consultants on board to join our ever-expanding Sales team. Three months on, our latest fresh-faced recruits have got their feet well under the desk, and are ploughing through their targets in true officebroker.com style.

“Since Fiona, our Training & Development Manager has gone on maternity leave, I have been tasked with the induction and training of all new starters,” said officebroker.com’s Head of UK Sales, Chris Meredith.

“I have been very impressed with our six new members. All of them were from outside the serviced office market and all of them have picked up the industry and product knowledge very quickly, which has shown in the figures that they have produced so far.

“I am confident that with the continued investment of time from myself, Stephen Preston and Chris Mapp, we will see all the guys go on to hit their targets month in, month out.”

Claire McCarron

Former Recruitment Consultant Claire, who worked for Estate Agencies in Birmingham before joining officebroker.com in September, handles enquiries for office space in Greater London, Thames Valley, the M1 and M40 corridors, and some other parts of the South East.

“I like the atmosphere, no cold calling – and the commission of course!” says Claire. “One of my strangest requests was from a client who had 8 staff, and they all wanted to bring in their dogs to work!”

Jon Wigmore

As an EMEA account manager (Europe, Middle East & Africa), Jon – who formerly worked in the motor trade for Vauxhall and Volkswagen – handles enquiries for locations all around the world. “It’s a huge learning curve and some of the EMEA areas can be a real challenge,” he said. “I’m dealing with places that IΓÇÖve never heard of, let alone been – and my pronunciation is probably shocking half the time!”

Interestingly, Jon has never worked in an office before – “so it’s all new” he said. “I like helping people out, giving them the information, pointing them in the right direction. Above all, when you’ve done the hard work and they take an office somewhere and give you a ring to thank you, thatΓÇÖs quite nice.”

Dean Ridsdill

Central London consultant Dean, who worked as a Senior Account Manager within an IT distribution company prior to joining officebroker.com, says he enjoys “the buzz created within the team”, along with the opportunity to work in such a high pressured area.

Central London is a fast-paced environment and there is a high number of buildings to learn in a short space of time. Commenting on how he has picked up knowledge of all the centres he works with, Dean said that he values the relationships and regular contact with the providers themselves, which helps him to learn more about the buildings. He also tends to “work closely with the team” to benefit from their knowledge of the buildings.

New starter Dean also took part in officebroker.com’s alternative childcare experiment, Business & Babies, and brought his 1-year-old son Harry into the office for the day.

Chris Mobley

Prior to joining officebroker.com, Chris ΓÇô who works on Central London alongside Dean – worked in field sales and hotels. “The central London pod is very fast paced which I enjoy,” said Chris.

Commenting on his strangest request to date, he added: “The strangest request I have had so far was whether a client could have a bed in the office with them…”

Gerard Richards

As a former salesperson for the Lex Autolease sector of Lloyds banking Group, Gerard is responsible for the most locations at officebroker.com, and has recently added Liverpool and Warrington to his portfolio.

Gerard joined officebroker.com with a proven record, having been the No. 1 salesperson at Lex Autolease for three years running. He reached the top spot within the first 6 months, and contributed to their status as the biggest leasing company in the UK – 3 times bigger than their nearest competitor.

But for Gerard the job became too easy, and since joining officebroker.com he is enjoying the opportunity to prove himself and work in a high-pressure environment. “ItΓÇÖs what I wanted,” he said. “I have had to start from scratch and itΓÇÖs a challenge ΓÇô which is what I like.”

Gareth Smith

Prior to joining officebroker.com, Gareth worked as a High Court Enforcement Officer whilst studying for a law degree, and was responsible for administration and back office operations to ensure that processes ran smoothly.

“My favourite part of working at officebroker.com is the interaction with clients, and the relationships I have with office providers in my area,” said Gareth. Asked about his most unusual request from a client so far, Gareth said that he has recently received an enquiry for a pole-dancing studio in Doncaster.

“It’s rather odd,” he said. “They wanted to get the ceiling and floors reinforced and everything. But it’s looking good so far and I think it might actually place!”
