Chills & Thrills at Scarefest… Last weekend Coombs, Joey and He Who Will Not Be Named from IT spent the day at Alton Towers for Scarefest, a truly spooktacular event featuring zombies, demons and ghostly ghouls. With the help of an Alton Towers phone app (trust the techies) the trio managed to miss the longest queues which gave them more time on the rides.
“Saturday was AWESOME!” said Coombs afterwards. “We went into the Scaremaze (Terror of the Towers) and then on Nemesis and Oblivion in the dark! It was amazing, such a good day.”
As far as we know, the trio had a bawl at Scarefest and no-one lost their rattle or cried like a baby… Which brings us nicely onto our next announcement. Coombs and wife Becky are expecting a bundle of joy in February next year, a little boy, on 28th February. While the happy couple are keeping possible names a closely guarded secret, what we do know is that 2012 is a leap year. So if little Coombs Junior arrives a day late he will join a small privileged group of people that technically have fewer birthdays and therefore must age a lot slower than everyone else…
Dog-sitting… In Marketing, Vikki is spending the weekend looking after leggy greyhound Peter (pictured) while her parents are away in Madeira.
Elsewhere in the Marketing & Finance office, Tracey is frantically trying to book tickets to see the Stone Roses, Alec is planning his usual student-style sojourn (this time in Liverpool), Video Editor Michelle is expecting another all-nighter in Birmingham, and Jo is off to the Lake District for a Hen Do. Don’t let the tranquil setting fool you – it’s likely to be anything but – as the packed schedule promises plenty of wine, girly giggles, pink sashes and swinging through the trees monkey-style. The latter is all down to a session of Go Ape on Saturday, followed by a meal served by ‘butlers in the buff’ and a night out in Windermere.
We also want to welcome new starter Adam, who joined the Marketing pod last week. Adam is planning to spend an All American Sunday in none other than Wembley Stadium, watching the 2011 NFL International Series game where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Chicago Bears.
Trail of Terror… In Sales, Gaz’s day has just been ruined with the news that Wales lost to Australia in the race for 3rd place in the Rugby World Cup. But on a brighter note, he’s planning a wheely good trip to the Coed Llandegla Forest in Wales this weekend. Along with mate Tim, he will be taking on the fearsome Black Run, a demanding 13-mile challenge featuring steep downhill trails, unsurfaced routes and unavoidable obstacles. Let’s just hope he’s not too tyred for work next week!
Gaz is one of many who are also looking forward to the upcoming Movember. Watch this space for more news nearer the time!
Tigger-tastic… On the subject of furry faces, Account Manager Rachel is looking forward to dressing up in a full Tigger costume next weekend for her brotherΓÇÖs 40th birthday. She won’t be alone – as the whole group are donning tiger outfits ready to look re-dikorus and do what Tiggers do best – bounce, bounce, bounce!
Monkeying around…Elsewhere in Sales, Account Manager Dean had a close encounter with some monkeys last weekend at Monkey Forest with his little boy Harry, Manny is planning to celebrate the birth of his friend’s baby, Ally has an exciting weekend in store laying new laminate floor, and Dan Mcleod will mostly be catching up with his two favourite TV programmes – The X Factor and Downtown Abbey (thanks Dan for sharing that one!)
The other Dan (Baldwin) will be spending his weekend playing hockey for Stourport against local rivals Lichfield, before heading off for a night out in Doncaster. On reception, Nicky and Kerry are busy counting down the sleeps to Christmas. Sorry to all you Scrooges out there, but there are now just 64 days left!
Love thy neighbour? Lyricist Tom has plenty of band practice lined up in preparation for Oxjam 2011, a UK-wide music festival that takes place on Saturday 28th October in Tamworth, with his band Unfriendly Neighbours. It’s an all-day event covering all music genres, and it’s all for a good cause – helping Oxfam to fight poverty across the world. Get involved and find out more at www.oxfam.org.uk/Oxjam.
That’s it for this week, but we’ll be back next Friday with another dose of officebroker.com antics!
