The Insider Weekly: The OB Movember Result, Gin & a Onesie Party
Believe it or not there is plenty going on this weekend aside from Christmas shopping. Find out what the officebroker.com team are getting up to in this week’s edition of the Insider Weekly, and catch up on previous editions in our archive.

Well, we didn’t get any of Liz’s famous mince pies. She made some but apparently the star on top shrivelled up in the oven and resembled something of a spider – so we’re now all hoping for a (more successful) re-run! Jo made up for it marginally by bringing in some flapjacks, cookies and scones this week (complete with jam and clotted cream, no less) and although they weren’t quite up to the standards of Liz’s baking, they were an acceptable second.
Elsewhere in Marketing, Vikki left early today to make the most of her birthday weekend, complete with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire which Marketing and Finance clubbed together to buy for her. She also received a birthday card with a gin-related joke on it. Something you should be telling us, Vikki…?
Alec is planning a game of football tonight and possibly a bit of ‘Winter Rules’ (aka ‘cheating’) golf on Sunday, Video editor Michelle is going to rock club Eddies again this weekend, Simon is going to London for the weekend to visit their German market, while Adam is going one better by going to the German market in Birmingham – for the fourth time this year! Those hotdogs must be good…
Newbie Laura is off to a ‘onesie’ party (no, that’s not a typo). Apparently a onesie is something of an adult-sized babygro and everyone attending the party will be wearing one – she has promised some pictures for next week’s blog, in the meantime you can Google ‘adult onesie’ if you have no idea what we’re on about!
Over in Finance, Sarah is looking forward to a DC Fontana gig tonight at the Coat & Arms, which is mostly 60s soul, followed by a spot of Christmas shopping. Lisa will be putting her Christmas tree up this weekend while Michelle is going to her hubby Mike’s Christmas ‘do. Last year she enjoyed the bubbly so much that she told everyone she loved them and got Mike’s boss onto the dancefloor, so weΓÇÖre currently considering a sweepstake to see what lengths she will go to this year…
In IT, Joey is going out for a meal with his brother’s girlfriend… sorry, that should be his brothers and their girlfriends… while Coombs is going to Coventry to look at the Christmas lights as well as going to a one-year-old’s birthday party. All that talk of Thomas the Tank and Mr Men prompted an angry outburst from He Who Will Not Be Named, who says that Fireman Sam has gone down in his estimations since the animation switched to CGI. I can’t say I’ve watched it since I was about 6 so I can’t really comment.
In Sales, Rich H is very much looking forward to the X Factor final on Saturday night, Jade is all set for a pampering session before going out for her friend’s 30th, Stephen P is meeting up with a friend whose film just debuted at the London Film School, and Gaz will mostly be enjoying a night out this weekend whilst trying to avoid the second dip of his lifetime in the nearby canal. Eww.
Nash has recently changed his Facebook status to “in a relationship” and, after a bit of badgering, reluctantly agreed to let me put it on the blog too! He says he’s looking forward to spending a weekend with the lovely lady along with a bit of Christmas shopping. On the next pod along, Selina says she has given up looking for a Christmas outfit, while Dave is having a pre-Christmas meal with his girlfriend this weekend who will shortly be jetting off to Zimbabwe to spend the festive season with her parents.
Mapp, Ian and Gaz are planning a Guitar Hero session this weekend, but apparently Ian has no rhythm, so it remains to be seen how successful that one is…
Kaz says he will mostly be avoiding a wedding this weekend (not his own, just to clarify) and is planning a trip to HamleyΓÇÖs at some point for his little boy Dhanish’s first birthday in six weeks’ time.
Rav had a good time at the Clothes Show last week, Craig is looking forward to his birthday this weekend, Dan White is catching up with some old school friends as well as celebrating his twin brother and sister’s 18th, and Dan Mcleod will be taking part in no less than TWO football matches this weekend, as well as going for a “romantic meal out” with Marcus and former OB employee Quigs.
On reception, Kerry is taking her little boy Hayden to see Santa, while fellow Receptionist Nicky is going to a fancy dress party this weekend as Cheryl Cole.
Finally, the results of our Movember vote – for OB Moustache Man of 2011 – is out, and the prize for the best ‘tache of 2011 goes to… drum roll… Stephen Preston! Stephen wins a luxury menΓÇÖs Gillette razor and grooming kit, which will help to rein him in next time he gets any daft ideas in his head about growing a ‘tache! (unless it’s for charity of course, in which case we’re all behind you)
Take a look at the photo evidence on the link below and if you can spare a few pennies, please remember to donate to the Movember movement here – all funds go direct to good causes to help research and find cures for men’s health issues such as prostrate and testicular cancer.
Well done to everyone who took part!
