Sky News open new studio and office space in the City
Sky News is due to open a new studio and office space in the City of London. The new base will be on the 15th floor of the City’s landmark building, The Gherkin – formally known as 30 St Mary’s Axe – and will be the new home of Sky News’ weeknight business news programme, Jeff Randall Live.
The fully equipped High Definition studio occupies a prime location in the heart of Central London, along with panoramic views towards Westminster that will provide a “visually stunning” backdrop for the news programme.
The space allows for a presenter’s desk, space for up to three studio guests, and a large screen for live video link interviews. There is also office space for eight Sky News staff.
According to a report by News on News, the move will allow Sky News to be at the heart of the stories it presents to its viewers, allowing for greater and faster access to the key City decision makers. Executive Editor Chris Birkett said:
“At every possible opportunity Sky News wants to report direct from the very heart of the stories our viewers want to see, whether that’s the latest business news, floods in the UK, foreign war zones or red carpet events.”
He adds that with the recession still making headlines, the City of London is where the banking crisis happened, and “it’s where the key players – from monetary policy makers to top executives and analysts – are based.”
