Plans for BirminghamΓÇÖs ΓÇ£LeadingΓÇ¥ Business Address
Proposals to further enhance Colmore Row, Birmingham, into one of the city’s leading business locations are underway, with a scheme to redevelop no. 55 having been submitted.
The project includes creating 153,000 sq foot of Grade A BREEAM rated office space, together with a café and restaurant. A high profile foyer will greet staff and visitors arriving at the historic entrance, with a remodel of the roof and maintenance on the listed Victorian frontage all part of the proposal.
James Howarth – MD at Abstract Land, the development partner of building owner Aegeon UK commented that, “55 Colmore Row has played its own significant role in Birmingham’s economic history and our proposals to revitalise the building are a real milestone in its lifecycle.”
“Having seen centuries’ worth of change to our city, it’s only right that this building continues to play its own part in the success of BirminghamΓÇÖs commercial centre”
This will be a welcome development with commercial property advisor CB Richard Ellis reporting a “diminishing supply of Grade A space” and a “lack of speculative development” in Birmingham.
To coincide with this development is the news that we blogged about back in April, where the Orega managed, Colmore Plaza business centre has now reached 100% occupancy. Plans for the second phase of the project, delivering a further 10,000 sq foot of office space, are now underway. The centres manager, Caron Salter-Hill, commented that; “It has been a very good start to the year for us and we hope to maintain the momentum with the second phase of the business centre”
