July was a busy month in the serviced office industry. Catch up on all the latest news and views as reported by the officebroker.com blog…

Business Centre of the Month Award… July’s award went to the very lovely EOG team at No.1 Cornhill in the City of London. Top-class service, a superb working environment and 5-star client endorsements all contributed to the centre’s achievement.

officebroker.com news… As part of our monthly newsletter we interviewed Simon Jones, Project & Research Manager at officebroker.com, to tell us how the UK office market is shaping up. We also caught up with our Head of UK Sales Chris Meredith for five top tips on how to keep the deals rolling in during the quiet summer season.

In other company news, we spoke with Sue Rizzello, MD of public relations agency Potion PR, to get her views on her recent office relocation and what she thought of her Account Manager Andy Bilson throughout the process. We’re glad to report that Sue gave top marks to Andy and said that he listened as much to what they did not need as what they did – and says that she was “delighted” to be on the verge of moving into the new offices.

Case studies… In true officebroker.com fashion we also challenged a number of ‘issues’, ranging from the ever-intensifying topic of wind farms (good or bad, beauty or beast?) and the questionable use of social media in the workplace, to the harsh realities of cycling to the office.

We also looked at the pros and cons of work attire in our Casual vs Formal case study, before examining a relatively unknown idea for making the most of empty office space – vertical farming! We are always keen to hear your thoughts on these topics so please feel free to share your comments and ideas in our blog discussions.

Charity Fundraising… Serviced office providers are a charitable bunch, and July certainly saw its fair share of volunteering and giving to worthwhile causes. John Spencer, Chief Exec of MWB Business Exchange, took part in the 3rd annual Great Swim at Royal Victoria Dock to help the company reach its ┬ú1m fundraising goal for the Variety Club’s Children Charity.

Fasset’s Langstone team took on the 10km Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK, while a 14-strong team from Avanta completed the 5.6 km JP Morgan Corporate Challenge for children’s charity Sparks. David Alberto, MD of Avanta, completed this challenge as well as taking on the gruelling Lakeland 100 – a 105 mile fell race across the mountainous backbone of the Lake District in Cumbria – in which he hoped to raise over ┬ú10,000 for Sparks.

With all this fundraising and giving going on, we also looked into the value of volunteering with a little insight from David Saul, MD of Business Environment.

Conventional office news… While officebroker.com has two feet firmly planted in the serviced office industry, naturally we also like to report on news from the conventional office sector. Yet again July was full of lettings, extended leases and new developments, including news that Laing O’Rourke has been chosen as the developer for high-profile London skyscraper the Cheesegrater, the announcement that Ropemaker Place in EC2 is now fully let, and news that the sustainable Angel Building has been shortlisted for the coveted Stirling Prize. Incidentally, the Angel Building is also the new home of travel giant Expedia.

We also reported on Sky opening Europe’s greenest media and production studio in London, as well as looking further afield to bring news of Hungary’s very first LEED building located in Budapest, and the collaboration of the Sydney Better Building Partnership that aims to reduce carbon emissions from their properties.

Q2 2011 stats… Finally, July saw the launch of the Q2 2011 edition of our Serviced Office Reviews and new City Focus reports.
