officebroker.com Blog: April Round-Up

Catch up with news from the serviced office industry in April 2011 with our monthly blog round-up.

Business Centre of the Month Award… April’s gong went to Fasset’s Caswell Science & Technology Park in Northamptonshire (pictured top), an attractive office building with a wide range of space and excellent facilities for businesses of all sizes and industries.

officebroker.com’s Sales Manager Chris Mapp described the business centre as a “fantastic product” and praised Fasset for the excellent business environment they have created for their clients.

Charity news… Office providers are a charitable bunch, and continue to do their bit in ever more challenging and inventive ways. Business Environment’s Leanne Murphy raised over ┬ú400 for Target Ovarian Cancer following a sale of delicious looking cakes and biscuits, while July will see 14 runners from Avanta competing in the 6.5km race, JP Morgan Corporate Challenge 2011, in aid of children’s cancer charity Sparks.

Expansion news… There was plenty of good news for the industry in April as numerous centres announced high occupancy rates and expansion plans, such as Riverbridge House business centre in Leatherhead (pictured left), which is set to open a new floor of serviced space following high demand and occupancy in their existing space.

Orega have reached full occupancy at two of their business centres, their latest addition at High Holborn and their striking Colmore Plaza location in Birmingham. The news will now pave the way for Orega to begin fitting out more space at Birmingham, bringing their capacity in the city to over 20,000 sq ft.

Ventia announced the addition of another business centre in Central London, based in Westminster, while Leeds based Bracken Developments are currently expanding one centre and are also on the lookout for a fourth site following increased demand.

Finally in other provider news, Basepoint – which operates 28 business centres around the UK – is launching a new scheme aimed at helping start-ups and SMEs by offering free use of their virtual office service for three months.

Serviced Office Reviews Q1 2011… The next round of Serviced Office Reviews have been launched, along with the brand new City Focus reports and a handy map portal.

Royal Wedding… The Big Day finally arrived for Prince William and Kate Middleton, bringing with it plenty of discussion and controversy. Despite the bestowal of a UK bank holiday, officebroker.com remained steadfastly open on Friday 29th April at the request of company MD Jim Venables, who believes that the wedding could – and should – have taken place on a Saturday to prevent the country from falling further into economic instability.

An unexpected visit… On a lighter note, while the door at officebroker.com HQ is always open, a little lost dog by the name of Woody took this in its most literal form by turning up at the office early one Wednesday morning. The cheeky chap had managed to escape from his nearby home and had taken himself on a little adventure, before winding up at the office wondering what to do next. He spent the morning with the Marketing team on the first floor before he was reunited with his owner, but following two hearty meals and plenty of fuss, we fully expect to see him again fairly soon!
