Office and property industry must endorse greener practices – DTZ
Greener offices and buildings can command higher rents in the future, but the office sector must get behind the Government sustainability agenda to help reduce the damaging environmental effects of buildings.
According to a news article by TheBusinessDesk, Ken Bishop, office agency director at DTZ in Manchester says that the UK can follow the US’s example, and command premium rental values for green buildings.
He said: “Legislation has been introduced to support greener construction and it is now well established that increased investment can improve energy efficiency and reduce running costs over the lifetime of the building.”
He adds: “Once the investment market in the UK appreciates this, the improved yields will enable the higher cost of providing the sustainable features become both affordable and desirable.”
Research suggests that buildings are responsible for 50% of total UK carbon omissions, 34% of which is produced by office properties alone.
