New World Trade Center Becomes Tallest Building
As work progresses next to the site of the World Trade Centers, the new One World Trade Center ΓÇô otherwise known as ΓÇÿFreedom TowerΓÇÖ ΓÇô has taken its place as the tallest building in New York City.
The building now reaches 1,271 feet, equalling the height of the original One World Trade Center tower that was destroyed along with its twin in the attacks of September 11th 2001.
However, construction is not over yet and the tower is billed to reach as high as 1,776 feet upon completion. At that time, it will surpass Willis Tower in Chicago and become the tallest building in the United States.
The new World Trade Center will comprise 104 floors, 69 of which will be office space. The Center will also house several restaurants, TV broadcasting stations and an observation deck.
ΓÇ£The New York City skyline is, once again, stretching to new heights,ΓÇ¥ New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, said in a statement to the press.

The neighbouring foundations of the original World Trade Centers have been converted into memorial pools of water surrounded by a garden, which features the tree that was the last living thing found amongst the wreckage and 76 bronze plates bearing the names of 2,983 victims.
