New Facebook Office in Covent Garden
Social networking company, Facebook, is looking to expand its UK base with a move to a new London office early next year.
A 36,000 square foot office in Covent Garden seems to be preferred location, which perhaps, is a surprise choice away from the government led ΓÇÿtech cityΓÇÖ in Shoreditch.
According the UK Trade & Investment website ΓÇ£The Tech City UK initiative was launched by the PM to build on the existing cluster of technology companies in East London to create a world-leading technology centre.ΓÇ¥ These intentions for the UKΓÇÖs equivalent of Silicon Valley in California may not be going totally to plan as Facebook joins other major technology firms, such as Microsoft and Google looking and settling outside this area.
Facebook, which now boasts over 30 million monthly users in the UK alone, will be looking to add to their current, 70 strong, team. Advertising sales vacancies are expected to be the primary new openings, with product development remaining in the US.
Newspaper, The Telegraph, has quoted Facebook’s vice president and Managing director for EMEA, Joanna Shields, saying “As Facebook’s growth continues we are delighted to be expanding our operations in the UK, with a move to a larger office in central London next year” and that “we’re excited about the next phase in our development.”
