More Council Office Space Goes to Market

Yet another Borough Council is to sell-off its office space after changes to its working practices and staffing levels, with The Insider reporting that King Sturge has been appointed to market a 54,000 sq. ft. office building own by Amber Valley BC in Ripley.

Part of the portfolio owned by Amber Valley Borough Council, which covers the ΓÇ£heartlandΓÇ¥ of Derbyshire, the decision to off-load the CouncilΓÇÖs office space was reached after a ΓÇ£reviewΓÇ¥ of working practices resulted in large areas of the office building lying empty and unused.

Speaking to The Insider, Council Leader Stuart Bradford explained:

ΓÇ£The building is a major fixed cost against our revenue budget. We always said weΓÇÖd explore every possible option at making savings and this would be too big an opportunity to ignore to make a potentially huge step towards meeting the financial challenges we face.ΓÇ¥

ΓÇ£The government has also recommended that we should review our assets and look to share facilities with other organisations.ΓÇ¥

The move by Amber Valley follows closely in the footsteps of Nottingham County Council, who announced in December that they would also seek to reduce the amount of office space currently being used from 23 offices to just 5 office locations.
