Huddersfield bids to host new Rugby League head office
Kirklees Council in Huddersfield have launched a campaign to bring Rugby League ‘home’, by encouraging the sport’s ruling body to move from their existing office in Leeds and set up a new home in Huddersfield – the birthplace of the game. The Rugby Football League has expanded in recent years and are now said to be looking for larger office space.
Martyn Sadler of the Rugby Football League said: “The RFL is the national governing body of a sport that is growing rapidly all over the British Isles. I can’t think of a better location than Huddersfield, both geographically and historically, for the RFL.”
Following a historic meeting in 1895 at The George Hotel in Huddersfield, the sport of rugby league was founded. Sadler adds, “a return to Huddersfield would therefore be a return to its spiritual home.”
