Highways Agency Move to BREEAM Excellent Offices in Birmingham Cube
Birmingham’s troubled Cube development has received a boost this week, as one its major tenants – the Highways Agency – has started to move its 700-strong team to the new office property.
Relocating from Broadway Plaza at Five Ways, the team have begun their move to their new 60,000 sq ft, BREEAM Excellent offices.
Highways Agency relocations manager Ross Higham said that the offices lived up to architect Ken Shuttleworth’s original vision.
“We have always stated the importance of working in effective and sustainable office environments,” he said, according to TheBusinessDesk, “which support our people, and provide them with the best tools for the job. These offices certainly achieve our remit for working effectively and efficiently.”
As recently reported on our blog in March, the iconic Cube project hit major problems recently when project backer Lloyds Banking Group refused to fund the development any further, and the development company behind it went into administration.
Despite these setbacks, the project has continued as planned.
“With the backing of the administrators, Build Ability have really pulled out all the stops to make the move as smooth as possible. We are delighted with the result,” Ross Higham added.
The Highways Agency have taken around half of the building’s 120,000 sq ft of office space. On completion, the property will receive a BREEAM Excellent rating, and has also achieved an Energy Performance Rating Certificate rating of B.
