Fasset Host Cooking Challenge with TV Chef Brian Turner
Flexible office space provider Fasset Ltd, which operates three high quality business parks in the UK, hosted the inaugural ARAMARK Southern Food First Forum earlier this week at its Langstone location near Portsmouth.
ARAMARK, which has provided catering and hospitality solutions at Fasset’s Langstone Technology Park for 5 years, organised the Food Forum event as an opportunity to get back to their roots and exchange ideas about how they can further improve on their services.
The day included a ‘Ready Steady Cook’ style cooking challenge which was judged by celebrity TV chef Brian Turner, in which contestants had to devise and cook a tasty dish from a bag of mystery ingredients.
Guest speaker Doug Bradley, who is heading up the London Olympic cooking team, gave an engaging speech about the challenge of creating nutritious and multi-cultural catering on such a large scale, whilst keeping the combination of flavours both innovative and interesting.
He also led the ‘ideas exchange’ which produced plenty of challenges for ARAMARK’s chefs over the coming months.
Angela Wyer, ARAMARK Manager at Langstone Technology Park, said that she was “absolutely delighted” that her venue at Langstone was chosen to host the event.
“I am really proud of my team and the service we provide at Langstone,” she said. “It’s great to step back and get back to what initially inspired me to have a career in catering, great food and fresh ideas. ARAMARK is committed to food innovation and this Forum was an excellent opportunity to learn and share as well as have some fun!”
The catering and hospitality firm manage Langstone’s 600-seat restaurant, a Starbucks Caf├⌐ with staff concession, deli-style shop, fresh salad bar and also organise a range of themed events such as ‘British Food Fortnight’ and ‘School Dinners’. The team serve freshly prepared meals to around 2,000 people every day.
Gary Medlow, Managing Director of Fasset Ltd and ‘Ready Steady Cook’ judge, said that the ARAMARK team at Langstone are “exceptional”.
“We have worked with Angela to deliver a range of services that are hard to beat,” he said. “The Starbucks caf├⌐ serves over 900 cups a day, the food is creative; and we have a raft of plans for future enhancements to the catering facility.
I was delighted to be asked to be part of this event, it was great to meet Brian and judge the dishes created by experienced caterers – delicious!”
In other Fasset news, their Hersham Place business park in Surrey has also made headlines for supporting the 7th annual Apprentice Competition for Rydens Enterprise School and Sixth Form College (RES).
Designed to encourage enterprise and entrepreneurial spirit, the event is held in real business locations and requires students to accomplish a series of tasks.
Mitch Avis, Strategic Account Manager for Fasset, set the first task which was all around gaining and retaining clients in the world of commercial lettings, and resulted in a number of quality presentations from students on how to engage onsite tenants in organised events, enhance on-site services, launch a site-wide intranet system, and introduce loyalty discounts to long-standing customers.
Commenting on the pitches, Mitch said: “I was impressed by all the team’s presentations. Their ideas were well developed and communicated and it was a very difficult decision.”
Round two takes place on the 5th October 2011. Further information about The Apprentice competition can be acquired from Sarah Maton (Business & Enterprise Administrator) on 01932 242994 ext 361 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
