Facebook on the Hunt for Office Space ΓÇô Again
This time the social networking giant is on the hunt for office space in Cambridge, Massachusetts to accommodate a new team of software engineers.
The choice of location is no surprise; with Harvard nearby, Facebook will have access to a talent pool of recent Ivy League graduates, as well as placing themselves at the heart of a high-tech business community, with Google, Nokia and Microsoft all nearby.
Zuckerberg and co are getting to be experts at searching for office space. With two moves for their head office in as many years, the company finally settled in their new Menlo Park campus in 2011, announcing plans for a second open plan office on the same site in 2012. They also opened offices in Dublin in 2008, Hyderabad in 2010, and moved their London office to larger premises in Covent Garden in 2012.
What can the Cambridge-based employees expect from their new place of work? If previous form is anything to go by, a laidback office space with plenty of opportunities for recreation is likely to be on the cards.
Facebook has always favoured an almost ΓÇÿdorm-likeΓÇÖ environment in its offices. As a result, their premises might not be as polished as other tech giants like Google or Apple, but the relaxed atmosphere has always appealed to their youthful workforce.
The new software team can expect graffiti-style artwork, chill-out areas with everything from chess sets to the latest video game release, and treadmills to encourage a healthy lifestyle. And thatΓÇÖs just for starters.
Although the new Cambridge offices are a relatively small operation ΓÇô the requirement is rumoured to be just 650 sq. metres of office space ΓÇô it surely wonΓÇÖt be long before theyΓÇÖre ready to look for somewhere bigger.
