City centre office space in Leeds doubled in Q3 – Jones Lang LaSalle
Office space leases in the city centre of Leeds have doubled in the third quarter of 2009 when compared with the second quarter, according to research by property consultants Jones Lang LaSalle.
Speaking to Property Week, Jeff Pearey, head of Jones Lang Lasalle’s Leeds office, said that two larger sized deals completed in Q3 2009 helped to boost the cityΓÇÖs third quarter figures.
He says: “These lettings are evidence that confidence is beginning to trickle back into the marketplace.” He then goes on to comment on the current market behavior, adding:
“Both landlords and tenants are adopting an open book approach when conducting negotiations and accepting that the best office space will still need to command a prime rent.
“Combined with the fact that we saw a considerable uplift of office requirements, receiving more than 300,000 sq ft of new enquiries over the same period, there is cause to feel more optimistic as we enter the autumn months.”
