BREEAM ΓÇÿExcellentΓÇÖ rating for Birmingham serviced office property

Colmore Plaza – an office property in Birmingham that provides serviced office space alongside conventional lease agreements – has secured a prestigious BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

The property initially received a ‘Very Good’ rating for the design and build. Later, when it became partially occupied, an ‘Excellent’ was awarded based on the building’s sustainable credentials.

Colmore Plaza joins a handful of other developments in the UK that have achieved the Management and Operation accreditation at this level, which boosts Birmingham’s reputation as one of the country’s frontrunners in green property development.

According to the Birmingham Post, Mark Harris, director of The Carlyle Group – owners of Colmore Plaza – said:

“As well as proving that the building is extremely efficient and sustainable in occupation, the BREEAM Management and Operation assessment exercise has also highlighted ways in which we can improve the monitoring of the building’s performance, something that is constantly assessed by our on-site building and facilities management team.

“There is no doubt that this accreditation adds value to current and prospective tenants, as well as complementing the cityΓÇÖs aspiration to compete on a national and international level.”

He added that the new ‘Excellent’ rating would be essential in securing new occupiers.

He said: “With so few buildings in the region with this accreditation, the new standard sets the building apart, particularly as the Management and Operation assessment is a more relevant and ‘real time’ measure of what occupiers are set to gain from the building’s efficiencies as well as flexibility of space on offer.”
