BCA Re-boot Conference 2010: Day One
Two representatives from officebroker.com – Managing Director Jim Venables and Marketing & PR Executive Simon Jones (pictured) – are attending the Business Centre Association’s annual conference today and tomorrow.
Currently in full swing at the London Hilton in Canary Wharf, the BCA’s Re-Boot 2010 event features several key speakers from the world of serviced offices, and a number from outside of the industry.
This morning, the Lord Mayor of London Alderman Nick Anstee opened proceedings and delivered an informative speech that covered London’s contribution to the economic success of the UK, and restoring trust between the City and wider society.

Alderman Anstee also covered plans to help boost SMEs with the launch of new incubation centres in London. These new centres will be created out of existing buildings that will be refurbished and refitted to suit start-ups and small businesses.
officebroker.com’s Simon Jones reported that the speech was “engaging”, and touched on key factors determining the re-stabilisation of the UK economy. This included the process of handling the sensitive relationship between banks, the public and businesses – particularly concerning SMEs.
Simon also commented on another speaker, Justin Urquhart Stewart, an economist and Founder of Seven Investment Management.
“Justin’s speech was very entertaining,” Simon commented. “His talk focused on the discussion of ‘Green Shoots or Advanced Mould’ and certainly threw up a lot of interesting points. Another intriguing point was that his company actually started out in serviced offices, and he puts much of their growth potential down to the fact that they occupied flexible office space in their days as a start-up business.”
Other speakers on the agenda today include Tom Stokes, MD of Evans Easyspace and former Chair of the BCA, Luke McKend, Industry Head of Local Markets at Google, and a number of other industry figures.
officebroker.com MD Jim Venables will be on a debate panel tomorrow alongside Giles Barrie, Editor of Property Week, and Robert Hamilton of Instant Offices. The panel will cover the topic of ‘Understanding Internet Brokers Business, their Affiliates, and how Internet Brokers add Value.’
