A Closer Look: Tower 42

Tower 42 is London’s original skyscraper.

Completed in 1980, the 600 ft icon was the tallest building in the UK until the topping out of One Canada Square in 1990. It was also the first skyscraper in the City and subsequently held the title of tallest tower in the Square Mile for almost 30 years, until it was overtaken in height by Heron Tower in 2009.

Today, the 42-storey building is the fifth tallest in London overall.

It was originally built for Natwest and was known as the National Westminster Tower – in fact when seen from an aerial perspective, the top of the tower closely resembles the NatWest logo.

The property, which has been listed with officebroker.com for many years, is available to rent as serviced office space, giving businesses a flexible alternative to the more conventional style of office lease. This opens up prestigious environments such as Tower 42 to firms within the SME bracket, and allows smaller companies access to a prime business address without the associated costs or long-term leases of traditional office lettings.

Recently the serviced office space has undergone a refurbishment, and new photographs added to the officebroker.com website show the business centre’s high quality interior and modern, stylish finish.

Serviced office clients have access to plenty of top-class amenities including an impressive reception area, video conferencing suites and an on-site gym, along with a stylish champagne bar – Vertigo 42 – and a Gary Rhodes restaurant, Rhodes 24.

Rebecca-Jane Strawford, Central London Account Manager at officebroker.com, visited the business centre last year and was impressed by the prestigious appeal and high-end facilities.

“It’s a modern landmark building with lots of facilities including a champagne bar, a Gary Rhodes restaurant, concierge, and salon,” she said. “Among the facilities are underground parking, video conferencing, a discounted gym membership at Bannatynes next door, and on-site showers.

“There is even a ‘room service’ menu which includes personal shopping, beauty treatments and language lessons!”

Located on Old Broad Street, Tower 42 is situated within London’s key financial district and is close to the Bank of England, with the tube stations of Liverpool Street, Bank and Moorgate all within a few minutes’ walk.
