£40m Birmingham Innovation Village unveiled at MIPIM Cannes property event
The MIPIM international property event currently in full swing at Cannes, on the South coast of France, has provided the setting for a number of UK-based development announcements, including one £40m scheme earmarked for Birmingham.
The plans outline the creation of a new ICT village, to be constructed at Birmingham Science Park Aston, and which will incorporate four new buildings totalling 10,000 m sq with a 4280m sq ‘iCentrum’ as the main piece.
Birmingham City Council is announcing the plans at the MIPIM event in order to raise awareness and attract potential investors to the scheme.
Council leader Mike Whitby said:
“Located at the very heart of our Global City, our renowned Science Park has the capacity to act as a major contributor towards our ambitions to grow as a world-class centre for innovation.”
Dr David Hardman, Managing Director of Birmingham Science Park Aston, said:
“Birmingham Science Park Aston is all about providing a physical presence where a professional infrastructure links with technology, innovation, funding, and the key driver in any knowledge-based business, the people, to create a world leading resource of intellectual capital.”
He added: “The development of our new Innovation Village will be the cornerstone of our plans to build Birmingham Science Park Aston’s global reputation through the next decade.”
The first draft of the plans show that the ‘Innovation Village’ will front onto Holt Lane and the buildings will be linked by a series of colonnade walkways.
