£10.5m Council Office Space to Go Ahead

£10.5m Council Office Space to Go Ahead

£10.5m will be spent creating a new headquarters for the Wyre Forest District Council, with the consolidation of the councils existing office space into a single location expected to create a saving of £500,000.

According to a Report by the TheBusinessDesk.com, the scheme, which will be located between Stourport and Kidderminster, has seen widespread opposition – with those against the scheme claiming that the funds used to construct the new offices would have been better used on those public services facing cutbacks.

But as Cllr John Campion explained, the CouncilΓÇÖs ability to move to the new office space could help to protect frontline services to a greater degree in the long term:

ΓÇ£The building will save us a large six figure sum each year, money which could be used to protect frontline services.ΓÇ¥

ΓÇ¥This is critically important when Government funding for the Wyre Forest is being cut significantly. The project is not diverting money from services. It is a capital investment project.ΓÇ¥

With four office buildings currently being used by the District Council, the creation of this new office space will also help the council to reduce its environmental impact ΓÇô with claims that the councils CO2 emissions could be reduced by as much as 85%.

ΓÇ£I am very pleased that colleagues on the council have confirmed that we will proceed with this important project.ΓÇ¥ explained Cllr Campion, ΓÇ£The decision to build new headquarters is based on careful and prudent financial planning reinforced by appropriate professional advice.ΓÇ¥

The new offices will be constructed at the Finepoint Business Park, the first phase of which was completed in May 2010. Once all sections of park are complete it will offer over 300,000 sq. ft. of Industrial, Warehouse and high quality office space.
