The Royal Wedding – Bad for British Business

While a handful of businesses will see a short-term gain from the upcoming wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, the truth is that the vast majority of UK businesses will suffer damaging and in some cases fatal losses as a result.

This is the real impact of the government’s decision to “grant” an additional bank holiday on the 29th April 2011, placing another unwanted, unexpected and unaffordable pressure on the fragile UK businesses that have just endured one of the longest and deepest recessions of all time.

That is why officebroker.com will NOT be shutting-up shop on the day of the Royal Wedding, but instead conducting business as usual.

While I am proud of the history and heritage that accompanies our Monarchy (simply the best tourist attraction in the world) – it seems ridiculous that the UK government would choose to bring the country to a grinding, unnecessary halt given the current state of the economy.

That is why I want business owners to join me and make it clear to Mr Cameron and Mr Osborne that: While the wedding bells may be ringing for William and Kate, it could be the funeral drum beating for UK businesses.
