Prestigious Sheffield office building set for face-lift

As part of Sheffield’s rising commercial fortunes a major refurbishment is being planned for one of the city’s most prestigious city centre office buildings.

Fortune Precinct, which houses a total of 112,000 square feet of office space and was first built in the 1970’s, will be at the centre of the proposed scheme. The scheme will provide Fortune Precinct with an extended reception area as well as an additional entrance on to Barkers Pool near the Orchard Square Shopping Centre.

Named after the fountain which formally stood at the top of Fargate, Fountain Precinct was originally built on the sight of the former Grand Hotel and holds the accolade of being the first office in Sheffield with air conditioning.

Having already attracted tenants such as engineers Atkins Consultants Ltd, insurance brokers Aon Ltd and the Co-operative Bank PLC it is expected that Fortune Precinct will become increasingly in demand as the economy finally begins to find its feet.

Rebecca Schofield of commercial property consultants Knight Frank said “As the economy begins to turn, we are expecting plenty of interest in the available accommodation (at Fortune Precinct) especially with the refurbishment of the reception areas commencing shortly. Available accommodation ranges from 1,700 sq ft upwards and provides modern open-plan floor plates with air conditioning, good natural light and on-site car parking”
