In a recent study by recruitment firm Office Angels, office workers have been criticised for using too much jargon in the workplace.

Terms such as "biting the reality sandwich", "touching base offline" and "stressurised" have found their way into the English language, along with "singing from the same spreadsheet" and the "credit munch" - meaning to opt for a cheaper lunch in lean times.

However experts have warned that such language can be confusing to customers and employees alike, especially for those who are coming into business for the first time, or for workers who do not speak English as a first language.

It is also seen as time-wasting and even anti-productive.

Managing Director of Office Angels, David Clubb, said: "Trying to talk the talk isn't particularly productive and doesn't make you seem more professional.

Whilst this jargon is amusing, my advice would be that nothing beats plain talking. If you communicate clearly, then you and your team can work more effectively."
