King Sturge finds Birmingham office take-up in 2009 close to 2007 levels

Figures from King Sturge show that despite a year-on-year contraction in take-up of office space in Birmingham during 2009, last year's take-up levels were close to those seen in 2007.

110 deals were said to take place in the UK's second city over the last 12 months, which is claimed to be an improvement over initial forecasts.

In total, 657,280 sq ft of Birmingham office space was signed for in 2009, which is down -31% from 2008's total of 959,307 sq ft.

Jonathan Carmalt of King Sturge's Birmingham office, said that 2009's take-up figure "was a far better outcome than most had predicted at the outset."
