The acclaimed MediaCity development in Salford is set to receive another letting, as the City Council releases plans to open a Media Enterprise Centre (MEC) at the location.
The MEC is set to acquire 53,500 sq ft of flexible office space in Salford, spread over six floors, in order to accommodate workspace and training facilities to support emerging media business ventures.
The scheme is aimed at encouraging and stimulating emerging media talent in the area, and will be jointly funded from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the North West Development Agency (NWDA, £3.8m) and Salford City Council.
Speaking to Property Week, Steve Broomhead, chief executive of the NWDA, said:
"This additional investment in the MEC will help to create the supportive environment for business innovation and growth that is an equally critical part of the MediaCityUK infrastructure. We know that MediaCityUK will be a site of global importance in the digital and creative sector and the initiatives based within the MEC will make it a bustling centre of the latest digital and creative thinking."
