New workspace plan for Grade II listed hospital in Manchester

A Grade II listed building in Manchester, the former Royal Eye Hospital, is set to be redeveloped into workspace for bio and medical technology companies.

Owned by the NHS Trust, the property will become a centre for research and innovation and the initial contract has been valued at £15-25m. A global clinical trial company is already said to be keen on taking space at the property.

Jackie Potter, Corridor Manchester's chief executive, said:

"The former Royal Eye Hospital is a great development opportunity where we intend to provide the modern business space that is much needed for companies wanting to locate in the Corridor area, and who wish to take advantage of the large network of health, science, medical innovation and technology companies already located here."

Work should start on the former hospital in August 2010 and is expected to be complete by Spring 2012.
