Rare Games, a subsidiary of Microsoft, is set to take up office space in Birmingham in a stunning converted church property. The building, Fazeley Studios, is located in the city's former industrial centre of Digbeth, and occupies a 150-year old converted Unitarian chapel along with numerous former factory buildings.

Despite only being open for less than a year, Fazeley Studios - the sister development of creative industries hub The Custard Factory - has just one unit left. Rare Games are now reportedly in the final stages of negotiations for the space.

Confirmation of the deal would bring a significant international presence to the area, and would boost Digbeth's move towards becoming the digital hub of the West Midlands. The nearby Custard Factory and The Bond, along with Fazeley Studios, are already home to several digital and media companies.

According to the Birmingham Post, Birmingham City Council cabinet member for leisure, sport and culture Martin Mullaney said:

"It is fantastic what they are doing there - this is the future for Birmingham." He adds that the region can become an "ideas factory, where stuff is made in the Far East but we are doing the design, research and thought processes."

Rare Games was acquired by Microsoft in 2002 and has produced titles such as Viva Pinata and Perfect Dark Zero.
