Plans submitted for Birmingham's tallest tower

If given the green light by Birmingham City Council, the UK's second city could be due for a brand new tower courtesy of Regal Property Group - which will be the highest building in the city.

The £125m, 200-metre high Regal Tower will be Birmingham's tallest, and will be located next to Brindleyplace at the corner of Broad Street and Sheepcote Street.

According to Property Week, plans for the tower will include office space, along with retail and leisure space, a hotel, apartments, restaurants, bars, a banqueting suite, and a winter garden.

Mike Whitby of Birmingham City Council said it was "tremendously encouraging to see that investors have kept their faith in the city despite current uncertainties," adding that Regal Tower will be "shaping the city ready for the future."

If planning is approved, construction is expected to start by late 2010.
