Planning permission has been accepted for a £70 million, 18-storey office development in Pall Mall, Liverpool.

The development has been approved by North-West backing scheme Liverpool Vision, who commented that the office scheme is "essential to attract inward investors and create jobs."

The project is also said to be a key element in Liverpool's bid to attract several Government departments, said to include the Ministry of Justice, in their relocation from London.

The 22,000 sq m scheme was designed by architects Broadway Malyan for an Irish joint-venture company, 30 Pall Mall Ltd.

According to Property Week, Managing Director Ashley Moore said that the new development would "act as a springboard for Liverpool as the UK recovers from the recession by delivering high quality office space."

As stated by Architects Journal, Matt Brook from Broadway Malyan's Liverpool office said that the decision by the Liverpool City Council's planning committee "is a very significant vote of confidence in the growth of Liverpool's economic future."

He added: "The scheme is fundamental to Liverpool's economic growth, particularly around the Commercial Quarter. As architects we are delighted the chair of the planning committee commented very positively on the attractiveness of the scheme."
